Elephant herd tramples car after baby struck along Malaysian highway

A pack of untamed elephants in Malaysia wreaked havoc on a vehicle traversing a busy highway after it collided with a juvenile elephant in their midst, as stated by local authorities on Monday.

The vehicle in question, a white Perodua Axia, was being operated by a 48-year-old man accompanied by his wife and 23-year-old son, as detailed in a report released by the Gerik police in the Malay Peninsula.

This family of three was traveling along a major highway from Penang Island to the northeastern coastal state of Terengganu around 7:35 p.m. local time on Sunday when the unfortunate collision occurred with the elephant calf.

The incident took place amid drizzling rain and foggy conditions, noted the Gerik Police, describing how the car was «navigating a left bend on the highway» when it collided with the young elephant.
